It's February 28th 2021. Spring chases winter away in Evran with cherry tree blossom and this week's glorious sunshine. But Covid 19 rages on - with transmission rising in specific areas such as Nice and up north around Dunkirk, where lock-down is re-imposed and new cases are still rising.
Today, for the record, France has 23,996 and the UK has 7,434 new cases recorded over the last 24 hours. The UK lies 23rd, internationally, in cases found per 1 million of her population and 16th amongst all European countries (not just those in the EU). Rarely, if ever, do we find this relatively better performance, compared with other nations, reported by the media. - One is tempted to ask, who needs a parliamentary opposition party when one has Sky News and the BBC ? ( these are figures taken from the United Nations Geoscheme -
Brewer's notes: This top fermented ale, called 'Spitfire bitter' - was brewed from malted barley grain, imported from the Uk, - supplied by BrewUk Ltd to the 'Body and Soul' Brewery (a Narrow Boat - wide-beam - currently moored at Port D'Evran, France, bringing relief to all aboard her. Any similarities to ale brewed by Shepperd Neame, of the same name, is purely incidental.
Thanks to the generosity of Clive (my son in California) who has provided me with the means to preserve, mature and serve this tasty, 'throat opening', home-brewed ale without the need for bottling - and all the mess that is involved - the above pictures are from the 'Spitfire Ale' recipe (yes you're right, "no Focker can touch 'em!" - the slogan stolen from Shepherd Neame). See the dispensing tank on the right above, with its tap, ready to serve. That's the one - delicious!
But it ain't all plain sailing, y'know....
