My Poem of thanks
I've been hanging on aged 79
for as long as I can and that's just fine
but, I'm naturally a bit partial to having fun !
and important matters have been left undone
Sadly - the 12th September has long passed
and upon reading my calendar I am somewhat aghast !
So I've dedicated this late poem to all Walker family ties
Too many souls to name here - for sore eyes
But thanks to all my 'rellies' and just to be PC
to the Rytinas, Blairs, Baileys, Balmes, Ridouts and Yeatts-Walkers
and the Crawfords, Mcbrides and Diamonds we can all agree
from the Chadwicks to the Falshaws - so much talent they expose
and to my Lucie without whom little happens? heaven knows !
Our weekly pension comes in, then out it goes
Like the sand at Saint Lunaire - between the toes.
But in my eighty first year, we've entertained a lot on board
helped by glasses of home-brewed beer and wine - that's all we can afford
But there are faces in this video, I confess, I've rarely seen
Who now live in lots of places where I have never been
Sending in kind wishes and singing that bloody song
whilst I appreciate the sentiment, it can be a bit too long
Upon hearing it in Lithuanian, and even in Chinese –
We may well have left the EU - but in France, life's still a breeze
Anyway, we are not complaining?
After sixteen years of entertaining
and we've survived this pandemic so far.
And one can never forget the people we've met
on Body and Soul – 'la peniche' with a bar
Be that as it may and suffice it to say
On board, life goes on whilst one's healthy
and through thick 'n thin if you havn't been
You are welcome whether sick, poor or wealthy
What matters in life, as our mummies would say
Is what gifts you can bring to others
- in monetary terms you've given nothing away
clearly advice well taken from your mothers
But for sending in messages and presents of all sorts
- and the fact that you have given me your sweetest of thoughts
and your artistic contributions to this epic CD
your good-will and talents laid bare to see
In thought and sincerity –you've been generous but snappy
and you've certainly kept this old man happy.
Thankyou
