Ode to Sea Biscuit
1
Our Rob is the Captain of a very large yacht
and a right good Captain too
He is very very good
and be it understood
He commands a right good crew
We're very very good
and be it understood
He commands a right good crew
When he's tied up to a pier
He can navigate and steer
and can hoist (by himself) a burgee
and he's never known to quail
at the fury of a gale
and he's never ever sick at sea !
What never ?
No never !
What never ?
well, hardly ever !
He's hardly ever sick at sea…….
Then give three cheers and cheer a lot
For the hardy Captain
On his very large Yacht
Then give three cheers and cheer a lot
for the hardy Captain
On his very large yacht
Hooray hooray hooray
2
He does his very best to satisfy us all
and with him we're quite content
they've been exceedingly polite
and he thinks it only right
to return the compliment
We're exceedingly polite
and he thinks it only right
to return the compliment
bad language or abuse
it's never any use
'till he finds himself in a real jam
though 'bother it' he may,
Occasionally say
He never ever says the word damn
What never ?
No never !
What never ?
well, hardly ever !
He never ever says the word damn…..
Then give three cheers and cheer a lot
For the well bred Captain
On his very large Yacht
Then give three cheers and cheer a lot
for the well bred Captain
On his very large yacht
Hooray hooray hooray

Rob never drinks tea when we're out at sea
and our breakfast comes at eight
'wobbly' coffee at eleven
is the nearest thing to heaven
It's better taken earlier than late
'wobbly' coffee at eleven
is the nearest thing to heaven
and its better taken earlier than late
We never have to fear
when its difficult to steer
as we drink another glass of ship's grog
but on a really empty tummy
it must look rather funny
But he never lets us founder in a fog.
What never ?
No never !
What never ?
well, hardly ever !
.. never lets us founder in a fog…
Then give three cheers and cheer a lot
For the well-fed Captain
On his very large Yacht
Then give three cheers and cheer a lot
for the well fed Captain
On his very large yacht
Hooray hooray hooray

Sea Biscuit is a very old yacht
A very old yacht is she
her ship's log is an epistle
and she 's cleaner than a whistle
because she hardly ever goes to sea
her log is an epistle
and she's cleaner than a whistle
because she hardly ever goes to sea
Through rocks and stormy seas
her radar conquers these
most accidents are easy to prevent
But never mind what's in the log
just chuck it down the bog
Rob insists that she has never had a dent
What never ?
No never !
What never ?
Well hardly ever !
... she 's hardly ever had a dent…..
So give three cheers and cheers a lot
to a very skillful captain
of this very big Yacht
So give three cheers and cheers a lot
to a very skillfull captain
of this very big Yacht
Hooray hooray hooray

His yacht, we think, is a metaphor for life
and a very fine metaphor too
take the rocks as his strife
he cuts through them like a knife
standing firm when he hasn't got a clue
take the rocks as his strife
he cuts through them like a knife
standing firm when he hasn't got a clue
As he passes 79
He's looking mighty fine
we'll give a lovely party if we can
but what would really be a plus,
and please join in, now, with us
happy birthday to a very brilliant man
happy birthday to a brilliant man
Happy birthday to you
happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Robert
Happy birthday to you
Hooray hooray hooray !
